What will I do?
Activities and Skills
Our summer ’09 camps will be short camps following one of three themes: Pirates, Medieval and World Camp. Pirates will include fishing for king prawns, treasure hunts at the beach, simulated surfing, climbing, inflatable gladiator fighting and pirate related games, parties and lessons. The Medieval Camp will include fischertechnik model building, archery, chess, tug of war, arts and crafts and Medieval related games, parties and lessons. The World Camp will include sports, cooking and arts and crafts from various countries from around the world. It's likely that you'll end up taking part in many of the activities, so while you don't need to be an expert, a have-a-go attitude is essential - on a typical day you could find yourself jumping from football, to archery, to chess, to being dressed as the White Knight and battling the Dark Knight on an inflatable podium. Our students are expected to try everything and so we’ll expect you to set a good example regardless of the quality of your work. You’ll also be there with the kids at meal times and their free time.
The changing of the camps and camp preparation will also take some time. So, someone at least willing to paint a castle or help build a pirate ship will be welcomed. The job will be varied but if you have some specialist skills or interests then let us know and you’ll certainly get to use them. You do not need to speak Chinese. In fact when interacting with the students you will not be allowed to speak Chinese, however if you want to study or speak Chinese then you will have a lot of opportunities in and out of camp. If you can’t speak a word of Chinese then don’t worry most people who move here permanently can’t speak a word when they arrive.
